Beginnings

Able Air‘s roots go back to 1983 when Art and Ginger Unruh started Art & Sons heating. In 1989, Russ fresh out of the army as a diesel mechanic didn’t know what HVAC stood for until he met Art Unruh and started helping work on installations and service work. “Art &Sons” worked on Heating , Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Systems, also running an appliance service center.

Working during the day and taking correspondence courses and factory training afterwork; Russ graduated from heating and refrigeration school then took the masters course and graduated with honors. That went on for many years until Russ had the opportunity to go learn industrial, commercial HVAC working for a larger company in Auburn that worked on skyscrapers , industrial facilities and every Ferry Dock in western WA. Continuing his schooling in HVAC-R and business management specifically related to hvac, He became Nate certified and eventually became Service Manager then Operation Manager of the company, while maintaining his friendship with Art and his family through the years.

When the company in Auburn was purchased by another larger Co, Russ remained as Operation Manager until he started learning what was becoming prevalent in the service industry, which included billing out the absolute most you could bill a customer instead of trying to build a relationship, after a few months it seemed to be all about the money and that didn’t sit right. Russ took a position at MIC as an HVAC-R technician and then moved to Chief Engineer. While at the casino we implemented a “In HOUSE” training program to help build independence and to give youngsters a taste of the Trades from HVAC to Electrical to Plumbing or Kitchen Maintenance, this was very rewarding and continued till 2008

Since Russ had all of the required licenses and was regularly receiving calls for help, Able Air was born.

We could go and help someone and were ABLE to charge reasonable prices, or perhaps for the customer that was down on their luck we where ABLE to do a repair and just wish them well without leaving a bill. This is how Able Air began in 2006 with the phone number that still is 360-802-2253(ABLE) after a few years we acquired the original Art -N- Sons phone number 360-825-6026 and began returning also to customers where it all started on the Plateau.  

We still believe in customer service, giving back to the community, we are 100% refferal driven because of our commitment to training, and commitment to integrity, honesty above profit. We Have a team of hard working honest employees that know that it is alway ok to default on the side of customer service. It is our goal to continue to be ABLE to provide high quality service, repairs and installation and reasonable , honest pricing. We stand 100% behind everything we do, We dont just want your business, we want to earn your neighbors business and your children and parents business, it is an honor to be reffered and we do not take that lightly.

Our goal is to be the “credit union”of the service industry, to give back and not just to take.

We currently have 4 service rigs, 4 licensed Journeymen technicians and one Apprentice and an energetic new Dispatcher that is handling the phones and helping out a great deal.

After many years of Nate being the go to technician and installer, he now manages nearly all the day to day operations, serves as lead technician and primary estimater and may occasionally wear other hat's as well.

Cari who has been here from the start ,manages the office, pays the bills and keeps the tax collectors happy, Aurelia is learning to take over those duties as family life allows. We are a family business even though we are not all related, we aim to have long term relationships with our employees and our customers whom trust so much to us.

Our team members are active within our communities and church’s, volunteering at food banks and other organizations to pitch in and give back.

We have led out and supported building mission trips to Peru,Chili, Nicaragua,Mexico, Panama ,The Dominican Republic, and Alaska.
